Paul Morphy was born in New Orleans, USA in 1837. He learned to play chess at the age of 10 and went on to become a brilliant chess player. This game took place in the Grand Opera in Paris when he was 20 years old. Morphy had gone to watch the opera called The Barber of Serville. Two aristocrats, the Duke of Brunswick and Count Isouard were also part of the audience. They both played chess fairly well. They invited Morphy to their box during the interval and suggested a game of chess. Here is the game:
